    WE’RE HIRING A CIVIC INNOVATOR

The Office of Civic Innovation (OCI) is opening a call for a new Innovation Fellow to join us for a one-year fellowship embedded in City government.

This year, we are looking for a Fellow to support our mission to help government become more collaborative, inventive, and responsive to San Franciscans. Fellows will work with change makers and innovators in City Departments to support our team’s work on high priority initiatives to improve the safety, cleanliness, and livability of San Francisco.

You might be a good fit if you:
    • Are a team player with a commitment to public service.
    • Have a track record as an entrepreneurial self-starter.
    • Embrace complexity and uncertainty and are adaptable to change.
    • Have experience with human-centered design, program management, and client or partnership management.
    • Demonstrate strong empathy and communication skills.
    • Are passionate about public service and bringing modern practices into government.
    • Want to spend a year learning how local government works.

The kinds of skills we’re looking for:
    • Partnership and project management: Fellow will be responsible for managing the program development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our team’s cohort-based partnership programs. Fellow will collaborate with OCI’s partnerships lead and will be responsible for owning work streams or management of individual partnerships that OCI facilitates. Fellow will manage relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including at the executive level. Fellow will also manage project sourcing, internal review, and project management of our team’s engagements, including Civic Bridge and Startup in Residence.
    • New initiative development: Fellow will collaborate with OCI partners to identify further needs within the City and, as needed, develop new interventions to address the needs.
    • Design research & implementation: Fellow will work with the OCI team to use a human-centered approach when addressing civic challenges. Skills desired include developing insights, brainstorming and designing solutions, and ultimately testing assumptions iteratively. Fellow will need to clearly communicate research findings with a strategic voice to deliver prioritized recommendations and potential design solutions to City staff, policymakers, and project sponsors.

    Eligibility Criteria
The program is designed primarily for mid-career professionals with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in innovation fields. Applicants from all majors and academic disciplines will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Fellows are expected to possess the following characteristics:
    (i) academic achievement,
(ii) written and oral communication skills,
    (iii) leadership potential and ability,
(iv) dedication to public service; and
    (v) an entrepreneurial spirit appropriate for participating in this unique program.
Preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate a strong connection and commitment to innovation in the public sector as well as to the City and County of San Francisco.

    Compensation
The salary for this position is within an established annual range of $61,516 to $74,776.
